I Don’t Burn Bridges

I don’t burn bridges
I let them fall to disrepair,
through disrespect and neglect
they lie fallow
gathering carpets of moss
until I sigh quietly
and push them off into
the dark brackish water
where they drift slowly
into my past

The Plunge

Late at night
When I’ve done everything I can,
Everything I can…

I make friends
With my…

Whatever you want to call them

We come to agreements
We make promises
We swear that
Things will be
ALL BETTER
When the sun
Comes ’round again

AND I BELIEVE IT!!!!
every time

In fact,
It doesn’t even wait until dawn

The plunge is painful,
Long and shameful,
I am surprised every time
At how much I loose
How much I cover up
For the sake of living
A “normal” existence

When I think
It has come to
It’s shaky end
When the random attacks
On my psyche
Have stopped…

Only then do I dare
To sit back and wheeze
Through stunted breaths,
How thankful I am
To be alive,
No matter how
Monumental the task
May have been

Speak

Speak
Use your voice
Use your words
Go everywhere
You ever want to go

Take me there
Show me what
I have been missing
Through the strains
Of your prose

Sing
Use your rock
Use your soul
Create a new universe
Don’t be afraid to go

Pull me into you
Show me the heartbeat
Of your sun
Let me feel
Your dark attraction
Fill my skies with
Sparks and stars

Make me yours
And I will be
Without question

answers

“she is so worth it”
an answer I give myself
if ever I find I am
in need of an answer

“she is so worth it”
an answer I give myself
if ever I wonder
why I came all this way

“you deserve it”
an answer I would give to you
if you should ask me
why I love you

you deserve to be loved,
you deserve to be held,
you deserve to be cherished

you deserve to be free…
from pain,
from loneliness,
to soar without fear

you deserve to be original
and be accepted for that

“I love you”
an answer I give you
whenever you say
“you’re a fool”

“I love you”
you don’t have to say anything
I will repeat it
until the end of time

Moment

There’s a moment
There’s a hue
There’s a shadow
There’s a bright
Too bright
To observe, directly

In that moment
Fleeting feelings
Wraiths of blue
Scatterings of yellow
Drops of laughter
Rivers of lust

Still,
That moment remains,
Elusive,
I shudder when I try
Recognition slips away
Arms empty

I kneel in my own
Confusion,
Asking only for a sign,
Finding vacancy
After vacancy
Moment fleeting

For the longest
Moment,
My heart hurts
Like my head,
Wrapped in velvet
Sandpaper,
Ripping and comforting
All at once

Hoping
A moment will bring
Truth
Like I imagine
Having been lost
To so many
Silent blows

For a moment
The parking lot
For a car
It’s all so much
Background noise
Spinning me
To the ground
Inturing me

Ending that moment

Unprepared for the next

Later

This is where we are
In a perpetual moment
That binds
Plans with reality

This is when
Later,
Is

This is when
We are going

It doesn’t have to be
Big and flashy
It doesn’t need to be
Quaint or docile

It will be whatever we want
When we get there

When Is Later?

We assumed that
What we needed
Was what we had,
We built ourselves
From our familiarities

It was so easy
We knew each other
We knew what were doing

So many years
Gone by,

Without a scratch?

But we knew there were other,
Things

Things brushed upon
Things talked around
Things set aside,
Until later,

When is later?
