A Kiss

If if were real
And I could hold it in your hand
That would be a blessing
For my reality

When you become actual
A little at a time
I can kiss tiny pieces
Until you are whole

As time draws circles
Around our embrace
Slowly tightening it’s grasp,
I rejoice amidst the pressure
Squeezing us into one

When when has space
Enough to breathe
I inhale deeply
Filling my entire being
With you

Now is then
When we first were we
Fighting through a wave
For something
We might have known
Would set us on a path
To somewhere
We still exist

I stay awake all week
Dreaming of you
And when we finally meet
Those words
That changed our course
Forever
A kiss

I am not sleeping

I am not sleeping
Because I am watching you
Furrowed brow
Hands clenched
You shudder and shake
Whisper parts of words
I try to decipher them
But they are gone too soon
I can’t resist
My finger softly
Across your cheek
Sometimes brings a faint smile
I want to put my arms around you
But stop myself
Not wanting to disturb you
I am not sleeping
My dream is right here
In front of me

Moment

There’s a moment
There’s a hue
There’s a shadow
There’s a bright
Too bright
To observe, directly

In that moment
Fleeting feelings
Wraiths of blue
Scatterings of yellow
Drops of laughter
Rivers of lust

Still,
That moment remains,
Elusive,
I shudder when I try
Recognition slips away
Arms empty

I kneel in my own
Confusion,
Asking only for a sign,
Finding vacancy
After vacancy
Moment fleeting

For the longest
Moment,
My heart hurts
Like my head,
Wrapped in velvet
Sandpaper,
Ripping and comforting
All at once

Hoping
A moment will bring
Truth
Like I imagine
Having been lost
To so many
Silent blows

For a moment
The parking lot
For a car
It’s all so much
Background noise
Spinning me
To the ground
Inturing me

Ending that moment

Unprepared for the next

Later

This is where we are
In a perpetual moment
That binds
Plans with reality

This is when
Later,
Is

This is when
We are going

It doesn’t have to be
Big and flashy
It doesn’t need to be
Quaint or docile

It will be whatever we want
When we get there

These Words

These words say everything
Boiled down to its essence
These words say nothing
Scummy leavings in the bottom of a pan
These words are outrageous
Read through the filter of the Bazaar
These words are joyous
Carried by the voices of the Sunday choir
These words float on the breeze
Sweet scents on butterfly wings
These words hold your hand
Warm solace in the deep deep night
These words are ephemeral
Catch them quick before they’re gone
These words are matter of fact
Listen if you want to hear the truth
These words cost me everything
You may have them for a song

It Happened

It has to have happened
One time
Someone believed
The story I was telling
Someone picked me up
Looked into my eyes
And saw that
I was still there

It has to have happened
One time
Someone saw past
The gibberish
I was speaking
To an empty chair
And put their arms
Around me
So I wouldn’t have to
Go through it alone

It has to have happened
One time
I sat and stared
Out the window
Trying to convince myself
That I had
A place in this world
And someone
Encouraged me
To take inventory
Of my life
To look at everything
That is inside
To be proud
Of who I am

It has to have happened
One time
You took a chance
On loving me
Wholly
Giving me
A place to rest
Something to count on
The ability
To be free

It has happened
Over and over again
I fall asleep
And wake up
Knowing that
You are with me
Holding my hand
A kiss on my cheek
Smiling with me
Feeling more love
Than ever before
